Put the flour, sugar, salt, butter, vanilla and Sweet Rub in a food processor and blend until mixture clumps.
Work the dough into a round ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate till firm.
Preheat oven to 190°C. Line baking trays with baking paper.
Roll out the dough on a floured working surface (taking a little at a time).
If you find the dough too soft to handle, add more flour.
Cut out shapes with your cookie cutter and place biscuits on baking trays, making sure to leave room between the biscuits for spreading. Bake until golden.
Make holes in the biscuits with a skewer when they have come out the oven. You can thread them with ribbon or string and hang them on your Christmas tree!
Sieve the icing sugar into a mixing bowl.
Mix the hot water with the sieved icing sugar until it’s glossy.
Pipe the icing onto the cooled biscuits and sprinkle with silver balls.
