ARD MATTHEWS - JUST JINJER
Ard Matthews is not what you’d expect. For many South Africans he is the lead singer of South Africa’s best selling, most successful Rock band of all time; Just Jinjer.
But did you know that he also has a Yachtmaster Coastal Skippers license? One of the several oddities to one of the best most most self-effacing singer/songwriters and lyricists of a generation of SA musicians.
He’s also a kite-surfer (not so hard to believe), part-time professional busker and a prolific global ambassador for South Africa's MyLife Foundation. He’s not exactly a slouch, much less the Elvis-channeling Rock God he was described to us as. Well, maybe a little of the Elvis stuff is true and that stuff is legendary.
In fact, much about Ard can be understood in the way in which one of the busiest men in local music just answered our ‘out-of-the-blue’ proposal to be a pairing contributor:
‘Food? Wine? Where do I sign? Hey – that rhymed. I should be in music…’
Make no mistake either. He is a Rock Star. His pairing also might not be quite what you are expecting. Ard and Craig can tell their inspiring story far better than we can though. Check out any of these for more background on one of our favourite and authentic, local Rock celebrities
